THANK YOU to sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers for helping to make the 5th Annual Bear Creek Salmon Festival a success!
For updates on Salmon Sightings in Bear Creek this fall, please click on the Salmon Sightings link above.

This FREE event offers activities for people of all ages to explore their connection with salmon through this year's event theme: "Salmon People — Recalling the Past, Working for the Future." This theme reflects the importance of salmon to the lives of people of the Pacific Northwest, both now and in the past, and their responsibility to ensure the survival of salmon for the future.

Through hands-on experiences with a variety of local organizations, participants can explore people's connection with salmon throughout history, as a part of the food web and as a cultural and artistic inspiration. Also, participants can learn some ways in which they can help protect and enhance salmon habitat - including water and energy saving ideas, eating sustainable salmon, planting native plants, cleaning-up streams, stopping storm drain pollution, and purchasing salmon license plates. And, there will be an opportunity for a close-up view of wild salmon, which will be on display in the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's 350-gallon salmon tank! Biologists are be on-hand to answer ‘fishy’ questions. Also on-hand will be a representative for the Elk Creek Dam notching project and another from the Savage Rapids Dam removal project. Information will be available about "Salmon Sighting" locations and dates on Bear Creek and the Rogue River, where trained staff and volunteers will assist with public viewing of spawning salmon on designated dates.

Please help out this year as we strive toward making the Salmon Festival a Zero Waste event. Please consider bringing your own cup, refillable water bottle, and be sure to visit the Zero Waste Demonstration Area next to the concession building. All eat-ware used at the event will be shredded and composted on site. By reducing the trash we generate, we can help make a healthier environment for salmon and others. Special thanks to Ashland Sanitary and Recycling Service and inventor Dennis Sobolik for leading the Zero Waste effort at this event.
